After the Statsraad trip, I went to New York University for a year, then took a year off to work for Oceanics on board the Yankee Clipper. I ran the ship’s store and helped the administration. I then returned to NYU before transferring to the University of Minnesota for two years where I got a BA in Journalism.
I went to work at the CBS station in NYC for 13 years behind the scenes, then left in 1991 to start a 24-hour news channel called New York 1 News for Time Warner. I worked there for 25 years as SVP of Local Programming in charge of over 40 local news and sports channels.
When Time Warner Cable was sold to Charter Communications, I found myself out of journalism for the first time in 40 years and since then I have been writing about hockey (New York Rangers) and playing a lot of golf.
I am married to Laura who works for the New York Road Runners (NYC Marathon). We have two kids, Grant (23) and Zoe (21) who are both still in college. I live most of the time in a house 95 miles north of NYC, but still have an apartment in NYC. My younger sister attended several Oceanics programs and is a Tony Award winning theater director and my older sister is a harpist with several orchestras in Mexico City.
I sailed twice on the Statsraad Lehmkuhl with my son just before COVID hit.

More on that on a later post.
