Lucille (Lucy) H. (Brynan) Seyler, 58, of Schuylkill Haven, passed Thursday, September 22, 2011 while in Steamboat, Colo. She passed, after many years of illness, in a location dear to her heart.

Born in Pottstown, Pa., she was the wife, for 28 years, of Timothy Seyler, and the daughter of Lucille and the late John Brynan.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by a brother, John; sisters Linda Sears and Lorri Brynan; sons Chris Rodgers, Alan Schnitler, and Dylan Seyler; and four grandchildren: Keagan, Jacob, Lozen and Hemmingway; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and a nephew.

In addition to being a loving wife and mother, she enjoyed various occupations throughout her life, including waitressing, counselor for special needs children, retail sales for an outfitter of outdoor equipment, cross country truck driver. She also trained and boarded horses, and provided riding lessons from the family farm. For many summers she operated a hiker hostel, providing meals, shelter, and friendship at the farm for hikers traveling along the Appalachian Trail, just south of her home.

She had an endless compassion for people and wildlife, and expressed herself throughout her life in poetry and art.

She developed a passion for the outdoors at an early age, traveling to, and living in the Aspen Mountains of Colorado at the age of 17. At 18, she sailed as crew aboard the Norwegian square rigged Merchant Ship ‘Statsraad Lehmkuhl,’ while circumnavigating the Atlantic Ocean.

She had hiked extensively, acquiring the trail name ‘Roughneck,’ throughout the Midwest, Appalachian Trail, and the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

She traveled with family and friends throughout the United States, Mexico, Ecuador, Spain, and Italy.

She believed that travel was the best teacher of what life has to offer, and instilled a passion for adventure in all who surrounded her.
