1947-1986

Arturo Rivera was a teacher on board the Statsraad Lehmkuhl during the 1972-73 school year. He was born on June 12, 1947 in Ponce, Puerto Rico and was living in New York City when he joined Oceanics.
Arturo, an accomplished pianist and classical guitarist, taught Spanish, French and Psychology for the Oceanics School.
Arturo was raised by his mother, Ines Acevedo, a lawyer who was the daughter of Pedro Acevedo Mejias, the Mayor of Agada, Puerto Rico.
He graduated from the Lawrenceville School and received his B.A. from Georgetown University. He did postgraduate work at the University of Puerto Rico and Columbia University.
Arturo passed away on October 19,1986 in Carolina, Puerto Rico, a suburb of San Juan. The cause of death was listed as Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). He was 39.
