December 24-28, 1972

Photos from the storm in the Bay of Biscay. We hit the storm on Christmas Eve and bounced around the Bay for four days before getting past it as we headed to Tenerife. We believe that the winds peaked at Force 12 on the Beaufort Wind Scale (hurricane force) with wind speeds reaching over 70 miles per hour. The ship was heeling and reached a list of 52 degrees and the propeller was coming out of the water. Two staysails exploded into tatters.
