In 2021 the Statsraad Lehmkuhl embarked on the most ambitious voyage in its history. The ship sailed around the world on a 20-month voyage as part of the United Nations decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
The ship sailed over 60,000 nautical miles and visited 37 ports in five continents. The ship departed from Bergen, Norway in August 2021 and returned in April 2023.
Newly equipped with scientific instruments, the ship served as both a floating university and a sail training vessel. Data was collected throughout the expedition with the goal of gaining a better understanding of our impact on the marine ecosystem. The participants were not limited to scientists but also to students and everyday people.
