After our amazing voyage ended in the spring of 1973, I went back to Wakefield High School in Massachusetts and graduated in 1974. I met my wife Beverly during my senior year and we married in 1979. We have two children and 5 grandchildren (one more on the way). I joined the Navy in 1976 and spent 23 years on active duty, first on two different submarines for 7 years, and then 16 years as a Navy diver. Lots of adventures and traveling all over the world.
I retired from the military in 1999 and we settled in Anacortes, Washington to raise our two children. Over the next 24 years I worked a variety of post military jobs. Seems I was always looking for a new adventure. They included a couple years working at Brookhaven National Lab in Long Island, 5 years as a partner in a dive training company, 2 years with Raytheon, 7 years with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, 4 years with a County Emergency Communications Center and 4 years with the City of Mount Vernon, Washington. Great jobs, exciting challenges and wonderful people.
Bev and I recently moved to Poulsbo, Washington to be near our oldest daughter and her husband and three children. Our son is in the Air Force and he and his family are stationed in Georgia. We visit them as often as we can. We live a pretty quiet life here in Poulsbo. When we aren’t doing something with our grandchildren, we love to travel, garden, walk and enjoy the beautiful pacific northwest. My experience on our voyage made a huge impact on my life and I’ve always been grateful for that opportunity.
